Adults in Werrington, Gunthorpe, Walton and Paston will benefit from Labour plans to offer them free access to retraining to help their job chances and to tackle skills shortages.

Labour’s pledge will put vocational education on a par with university degrees and deliver a radical expansion of lifelong learning to make sure “no one is shut out of education.”

Q: What’s on the 🍽️ table❓

▶️ There would be free entitlement to six years of study for undergraduate degrees and equivalents such as diplomas and foundation degrees.
▶️ This would also be extended to certificates and diplomas of higher education in areas such as engineering technicians, nursing associates and professional accounting technicians.
▶️ Any adult without an A-level or equivalent qualification would be able to attend college and study them for free.
▶️ Grants to support low-income adults through their courses would also be made available if Labour wins the December 12 General Election.

Worth 🤔 Noting:

✅ The CBI business group welcomed making training a priority, saying: “Adult participation in education is at its lowest for two decades.”
❎ The Edge vocational education charity warned the current skills shortage was costing UK businesses £4.4bn per year.
