Isn’t it time we flogged the Mayor’s car Reg…. esp at this price???

Mayors Car

A couple of years ago I ran a petition calling on the Council to get rid of the Mayor’s car, nearly 400 people added their support.

Sadly, the Tories at the Town Hall ignored this call, instead preferring to rent a newer version for £6,000 a year!

At the start of February 2018 ,the Peterborough Telegraph reported that Peterborough City Council as part of it’s budget proposals had “..declared it will no longer run the popular family attraction in Flaxland in order to save £18,000 a year.”

At a time of bumper pay for senior councillors and officers at the town hall, and another hike in council tax, many local people were not happy!

The Manor isn’t closing, says PCC! So why are parents panicking?

City Council
Trying to understand the City Council is not easy when they themselves are not sure what they have been saying!

You may have read recently in the Peterborough Telegraph, that Nazreen Bibi, whose daughter Mirdyea Shahzadi (19) is severely autistic and needs 24-hour care, was concerned that local parents could struggle if The Manor, a respite home for children and young people with disabilities, closed.

Once they wanted to shut Westcombe Engineering ….now they want its profits!

Westcombe Engineering

Background

In 2007, it was reported in the local media, that the Conservative controlled City Council, here in Peterborough decided that Westcombe, had become a financial drain, and it announced plans to wind-down the facility.

This would have seen 21 disabled and four able-bodied workers lose their jobs.

If someone steals your bin ….. you’ll be charged!

Wheelie Bins

Yip! The Tories at the Town Hall have once more been coming up with some super ideas in order to deal with their impending financial deficit, caused either by their own vanity projects or cuts made by their Tory colleagues in central government.

This time they’re proposing that if your bin gets stolen, then to get a replacement you’ll need to pay them £25 for a new bins and £15 for a new food caddy and set of liners.

At this point ………

A) You might be wondering where your Council Tax actually goes and what it gets spent on?

B) You might also remember that these are the same Tories who came up with the idea of charging you to have your brown bin collected a.k.a the Brown Bin Tax.

The bods at the Town Hall are justifying this proposal by talking about “….the number of lost or stolen bins in the city.”

They claim, last year the council spent £144k replacing these.

They also claim that they predict that this cost will rise to £170k in 2018/19.

But give no reason as to why? Perhaps they know of some of some expert bin thieves moving up from London in the near future?

As always, I’d love to know what you think? Please post a comment below!

Time to close the Northminster Car Park toilets ……….?

Northminster Car Park Toilets

The Tories at Peterborough City Council are presently “consulting” on their latest budget proposals.

There’s a range of planned cuts, that they say have to be introduced, in order to alleviate the cuts in their Government grant, made by their Tory masters at Whitehall.

Could you spot slavery in Peterborough?

Modern day slavery

“Modern day slavery is a rising threat to our communities, and because of its hidden nature, is a major concern.”

In my opinion, there is no doubt that more people locally, need to be more aware of modern slavery to help tackle criminal gangs exploiting vulnerable workers living in squalor and on scandalous wages.

Will we see teenage pregnancies rise?

Pregnancy Peterborough
With all these “cuts” to central government funding for Peterborough City Council, one area that I am worried about is teenage pregnancy.

As far back as 2007, I raised my concerns and called for stronger action.

In recent years we have read about reductions in the number of teenage pregnancies in the city.

Teenage pregnancy

Sadly, I fear, public health funding, under this present Tory regime will be effected by the cuts and all the good work might be undone,

I have now requested an update from Dr Liz Robin, Director of Public Health for Peterborough, and for assurances that support levels can be maintained.
